Executive Summary: Ubisoft downgrades financial targets, delays R.U.S.E. and Splinter Cell: Conviction, shifts focus to core gaming, new Assassin’s Creed coming

Today Ubisoft issued a new press release indicating a downgrade in sales expectations primarily due an expected 50% drop in the casual game market and lower and than expected performance from James Cameron’s Avatar: The Game along with a Nintendo DS software sales downturn.

Giving the expected drop in the casual market, Ubisoft has indicated an increased concentration on AAA game production given the success of Assassin’s Creed 2 which has already sold 6 million.  The focus points to be primarily for the PS3 and Xbox 360 consoles as it’s stated that non-casual Wii games continue to struggle.  Included as examples is a new Assassin’s Creed episode with online multiplayer, as well as a new Tom Clancy Ghost Recon game

Finally, it is also stated that Splinter Cell: Conviction has once again been delayed now slated for April 2010, while R.U.S.E. is also delayed with an unspecified released date.  Sean C.
